Please submit your booking request by emailing the Learning Team at LearningBookings@scll.co.uk

Please include as many details as possible, including:

  • School name and postcode
  • Contact number and email
  • Which session/Discovery Box you are enquiring about
  • Information about year group, number of pupils and any other relevant information
  • When you would like to visit or book
  • Any other questions you may have

Once you have booked, we will send you a confirmation letter via email.

Parking and Arrivals

We can provide minibus parking facilities.  Minibus parking is free with a pass from the museum reception. Unfortunately we are unable to offer coach parking on site.

If you have booked a session or tour, you should aim to arrive as close to the start time as possible. We may be unable to provide the whole service if you are late. If you have any problems on the day, please phone the relevant museum and we will do our best to resolve any potential difficulties:

Please don’t arrive too early as we may not be quite ready to welcome your group!

Teachers are responsible for their class at all times and must stay with the class for the whole of the session on both guided and self-guided visits.

Lunch Arrangements

Salford Museum & Art Gallery – A room is available for up to 30 people to eat their lunch. Please reserve this when you make your booking. Larger parties should be split into smaller groups and visit the room in turns. Peel Park can be used for lunches in fine weather.

Ordsall Hall – A space is available for an hour for a class of up to 35 to eat their lunch. This will be allocated when booking for a full day’s visit. If you are visiting for a shorter amount of time but would still like to book a lunch space, please ask when making your booking. The Gardens can also be used for lunches in fine weather. During lunch you may wish to take your class outside to explore, or visit the exhibition on the first floor which isn’t used in our session.

Accessibility

Both museums have accessible toilet facilities.

Both museums have lift access to all spaces used in school sessions.

Both museums have Social Stories / Familiarisation guides so visitors know what to expect when they visit. These are available to download here:

Both museums have same-level entry points, with ramp access at Salford Museum & Art Gallery.

Ordsall Hall’s guide book is available in Large Print from Reception.

Both sites encourage sensory engagement – please speak to staff on site to find out more!

Both sites have Choosing Boards available at the front desk to help you plan and organise your visit. Please ask if you would like to use these.

Shop

Both museums have a small shop on site, with a good range of souvenirs and plenty of items at pocket money prices. You are more than welcome to visit in small groups or you can pre-order some items for your class when you book your visit.

Prices and Payment

Facilitated school sessions

Full day:

Salford schools £6.00 per pupil, non-Salford schools £6.50 per pupil

Half Day:

Salford Museum & Art Gallery – Salford schools £4.00 per pupil, non-Salford schools £4.50 per pupil

Ordsall Hall – Salford schools £4.50 per pupil, non-Salford schools £5.50 per pupil

ESOL

ESOL tours at Ordsall Hall and Sessions at Salford Museum and Art Gallery cost £3.50 per learner with no charge for tutors and other staff.

There is no charge for self-guided visits but these do need to be booked in advance.

All payments will be invoiced directly to your college or university unless agreed otherwise at the time of booking.

Discovery Boxes

Discovery Boxes are loaned for a half term and cost £50 per box per half term, including access to the relevant digital material via SeeSaw.

Discovery Boxes must be collected and returned from and to Salford Museum & Art Gallery, with dates agreed at the time of booking. Terms & conditions will also be sent at the time of booking.

All payments for session and Discovery Box bookings will be invoiced directly to your school unless agreed otherwise at the time of booking.

Policies

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your session please let us know as soon as possible. If you cancel your visit or any paid element of a visit with less than two weeks’ notice you will be charged 50% of the cost of the session.

Risk Assessments

We have sample risk assessments available to download here to assist you in completing yours. The responsibility for completing a satisfactory risk assessment lies with the lead teacher.

Teachers are responsible for their class at all times and must stay with the class for the whole of the session on both guided and self-guided visits.

Photography

You are very welcome to take photos of your group during their session at the museum. We do, however request that if the photos are to include the facilitator(s) delivering the session, that you ask their permission beforehand.
